My life in Odesk

Days before I finally decided to resign from my past job in a government agency seven months ago, I landed my very first assignment in Odesk. I was so excited to work on it, I had to re-read all the instructions on how to work through the Odesk system.

My very first assignment was a data entry job wherein I had to transcribe a contact list in a PDF file into an MS Excel spreadsheet. I was fortunate that the buyer hired me with a rate of $2.00 per hour, higher compared to data entry rates these days. I was able to finish it in 5 hours, he even gave me a bonus and hired me again for his next assignment.

Since then, I have been getting jobs and invited for interviews left and right. Getting good to excellent feedbacks helped me a lot in getting more jobs and being able to raise my rate.

Through Odesk, simply by doing data entry works, with research and some virtual assistant posts, I earn more than what I used to earn working in an office. My earnings in Odesk helped me pay my monthly bills : electric bills, internet and phone bills, grocery, tuition fee for my nephew's schooling, monthly amortization for the condo unit my fiance and I bought early this year. There's even an extra for a little shopping and an out-of-town weekend.

My fiance even told his officemates that my Odesk earnings is what we use for everything, his salary is just a bonus for us to use for our weekly night-outs.

Not only am I grateful to Odesk for the earnings I got, I am also grateful because through Odesk I have learned a lot about online works. Some buyers have taught me how to do SEO, how to manage projects for website designs, etc.

From then on, I have become a very huge fan of ODesk! Working online and in the comfort of my home is something I've always wanted, as it gives me more freedom to work on my own free time, to work on different things and to meet different people from all over the world.

I am not in this position overnight, I worked my way up. and I plan to continue working my way up as high as I can and as long as Odesk is here.

More power to Odesk!

  1. Congratulations on your oDesk success!

Because my husband and I live in the US, it takes considerably more for us to pay the bills...but we are getting by without having to deal with the everyday headaches of an office job - and that's what counts! :)
