New haircut

My sister gave me a Gift Certificate (she got it at the Belle de Jour event) for a free Protein Hair Treatment at any Azta Urban Salon branch. I am not a fan of any hair treatment because I am afraid that it might ruin my hair, but since it's free I decided to avail the treament at their Eastwood Branch after my gym training last Thursday. I also had my hair cut and styled by their Senior Stylist (I forgot to even ask his name and the name of his assistant hehe)

Thursday morning, I sent a text message to Meg to ask for an afternoon appointment, I didn't got a reply so I just went to the salon to ask the receptionist if it's ok to avail the GC without an appointment. Since its only 1pm, there are only 2 customers so they accommodated me.

They asked me if it was my first time in their salon, I said yes, and said that I also need a hair cut with the treatment.

My hair was shampooed first. Funny thing is, they shampoo your hair while you're sitting there and without using water, they just pour the shampoo in your hair and lather it. It was then rinsed at the other side of the salon.

Protein treatment was then applied to my hair. Protein Treament is just the regular cleansing and revitalizing of hair and scalp. The treatment only lasted for less than 20 minutes.

Next came the hair cut! . . . The stylist asked me if I want it really short, but I said, I still want it long and just have it trimmed. He told me he'll just do the gradual layer style, which is what I've always had, but without the bangs. He cut 2 inches or I think even more. Last thing he cut was my bangs, a side swept one, shorter than I thought and I wanted.

Here are my before and after pics
I think I like my hair longer :) . . . I now have to wait months to grow it back to how I wanted it.

The stylist told me I should avail of the Digiperm. He will do have my hair in loose waves. Maybe soon if my hair is longer and I have the budget for it, because it's a whooping P5,750!!!

They also offered me the L'oreal Professionel Playball. It's a texturizing wax-paste for body, dramatic definition and powerful hold, with a matt finish. It creates a messed up, matte finish with no oily residue. It's worth P700.00

Costing:

Hair cut -- cost P 250 -
Protein Treament -- FREE!
Tip -- P200

Total -- P450.00

I love my experience with Azta Urban Salon - Eastwood Branch. The staff are very nice and accommodating. Their prices are also affordable. I'm definitely going back to this place.

Spread the Word for Charity

Yesterday, I received an email from someone named Chloe Swanson of Spread the Word for Charity / HotelsCombined.com. She came across my blog post about Sponsoring a Child in World Vision last August 12, 2009, she then asked me if I would be interested to participate on their spread the word for charity program.

Without hesitation I visited the Hotels Combined Spread the Word for Charity Program to see on how I can participate.

HotelsCombined.com is the world’s leading hotel price comparison engine used by over 40 million people every year. We help consumers to find the best hotel rates by searching all the best travel sites at once.

Hotels Combined For Charity began with the idea to raise money for charity whilst at the same time spreading the word about their free hotels comparison search engine.

Charities included are:

There are 3 really simple ways one can participate and get them to donate $5, $10 and/or $20 on one's behalf.

1. Mention Hotels Combined and their spread the word for charity program on your website and we will send $20 to a supported charity of your choice!

2. Simply sign into Facebook and "become a fan" of our Facebook page and we will send $5 to a supported charity of your choice!

3. If you have at least a couple of Twitter followers, send out a tweet about us. It's that simple!

You too can donate to charity by spreading the world.

Let's all help make the world a better place!

I recommend Hotels Combined and sent $20 to World Vision!

You can shout and help too.

PickJack pays!

While looking for other ways to earn money online, no matter how small or how big I will earn, I came across the site called Pickjack.

Pickjack is a site where you are paid in answering questions and posting questions as well. Minimum payout is 5 cents via Paypal. The balance or amount earned depends on the following (as posted in their site):

  • Writing interesting, challenging and accurate questions (The more the better)
  • Correctly answering questions
  • Referring friends

Two days after signing up, I earned around $0.08, which is pretty low after correctly answering hundreds of questions and posting questions as well.

I stayed active for 5 or 7 days I think, until my balance reaches $0.17. I stopped answering and posting when I got busy. August 19 came, the day of the payout. I login at the site and saw that my balance is back to zero, and posted on the transaction details is this:

Approved Transaction
Amount -- 0.17
Date -- 12:00am Aug 19, 2009

I then checked my paypal account to see if it really pays automatically. The amount is still not there so I thought it was all a scam. The next day, August 20, I decided to check again my paypal account, since based on the reviews I read, it sometimes took 3 days before the amount is reflected to the the account, to my surprise, it was already deposited to my paypal account.

It was a small amount, its not even 10 pesos. I am posting this just to say that PickJack.com is not a scam, it really pays.
I may continue answering and posting questions at Pickjack during my free time. No matter how small it pays, in time (maybe in months or even years), I know I can have extra money in my paypal account.

DFA Passport Renewal

It has been years since my passport expired. Since we have not been travelling out of the country for the past years, renewing the passport is one of my least priorities. Earlier this year, I told myself that if not this year, by next year, I will travel out of the country, either go to Hongkong or Singapore or wherever my budget permits me to.

Last Monday, my mom told me that they are planning to go to Malaysia early September, and she told me if I want to come with them. We'll be out for one whole week, with 2 or 3 days in Brunei for me. They'll be going there for business purposes, and I will be going for both business and pleasure. So it was decided that it's about time for me to renew my passport and for my kid sister to apply for a new one.

Mama decided to use the DFA Passport Appointment System by Internet to get an appointment instead of getting in line and waiting for hours for the passport process. The online system is valid only in DFA Manila, for new applicants, renewal, and senior citizens.
She submitted our details Tuesday morning. By mid afternoon, she already received a confirmation email with these details:

Thank you for choosing the DFA Passport Appointment System.

We are pleased to inform you that we have reserved a slot for you. Please proceed to Gate 2 of the DFA-Pasay City on the date and time indicated below for the processing of your passport.

Date : 20 August 2009

Time : 10:00 - 11:00 am

Reference Number : 20AUE10-39 (name, date of birth and old passport number)

We were scheduled two days after submitting the details online, that was fast!

So my mom, gathered all the requirements making sure that it is complete so as to have a hassle-free processing. We arrived around 10:30am, proceeded to the verification window, paid for the passport fee at the auditorium( 500 pesos for 14 days processing, and 750 pesos for 7 working days) then to the encoding area and lastly the finger printing (which I thought is already digital). The whole process lasted only about an hour. It was a speedy process as long as you have all your requirements ready.

Make sure that all original and photocopies of the requirements are on hand.

All in all, our transaction with this government agency is a hassle-free and fast process.

Gear up with Canon PIXMA!

Gear up with Canon PIXMA! Cool items up for grabs.

I seldom win a prize for any contest or promo I join. Last month, I decided to join the Canon Pixma Printers Lootbox Promo at ClicktheCity.com.

I simply answered the question correctly and sent my contact details as well. I was hoping to win the Canon PS480 Camera. Last week, I received an email from the courier@clickthecity.com, stating that I won in their promo. I was one of the Daily Winners of their Consolation Prize. In their email, it said that I won the Rudy Project Satin Kit, but when Ayie's friend picked up the prize in their Makati office, they gave him the Sling Wallet instead of the Rudy Project Kit.

This is what I've got. It's a camera case, with a wallet, and a strap. Good for travelling. The only problem is I don't have a decent camera yet hehe. . . maybe it's a sign that I need to buy a new one so I could use this one.

a thought for . . .

no words can ever explain how i feel. . . just so you know. . .

If I had never met you, I wouldn't like you;
If I didn't like you I wouldn't love you;
If I didn't love you I wouldn't miss you...
But I did, I do and I will.

Sponsoring a Child in World Vision

Last June, I visited the website of World Vision Philppines just to browse and read about sponsoring a child.

Just a background, World Vision is a Christian relief, development, and advocacy organization dedicated to working with children, families, and communities to overcome poverty and injustice. World Vision partners with children and the communities among the poorest areas to help improve lives and combat poverty.

There are different ways to get involved with World Vision:
  • Sponsor a Child
  • Exposure Trip
  • Volunteer in the mall campaigns
  • Be a church partner
  • Disaster relief operation
  • Mall Campaign Volunteers
  • Be a Channels of Hope advocate
  • Be a corporate partner
  • For Schools and Students
  • Internship (for local and International students)
  • Artist Associates

As an individual, I have always dreamt of sharing my blessing or simply "pay it forward" in my own little way.

Seven or eight years ago, I have sponsored a child through World Vision, but have to discontinue due to financial problems at that time. This time, since I know I can always find a way to continue my plegde, I decided to sign up and sponsor another one.

Since I signed up online, I was not able to choose a child I want to sponsor like before. They just sent me the Profile Card of the Child they chose for me based on my preferences. I preferred to sponsor a Girl of any age.

They gave me a girl named Rizalyn. She is turning 10 this September 21. She's in Grade 3. She and her family lives in a rural area. Both her parents are self-employed but their combined earnings is hardly enough to provide for their family.

I hope that my little pledge can help her and her family.

You too can help and sponsor a child through World Vision.

have i ?

I have been an avid fan of One Tree Hill the series. I have watched every episode of all six seasons. There are lines in the series that somehow catch my attention. And one of those lines is this one:

You ever look at a picture of yourself, and see a stranger in the background?. It makes you wonder how many strangers have pictures of you. How many moments of other peoples life have we been in. Were we a part of someone's life when their dream came true or were we there when their dream died. Did we keep trying to get in?As if we were somehow destined to be there or did the shot take us by surprise. Just think, you could be a big part of someone else's life, and not even know it.

After reading this one, I wondered, if by any chance, one way or another,

have I played a big part of someone's life without me knowing it?
have I crushed someone's dream?
have I inspired someone's life?
have I???

Do your math

~ got this one from Girltalk last 2005. And I have been reposting this ever since, from my friendster blog to my multiply blog to finally here at blogspot.

------------------------

I heard one girl friend talk about the things she’s looking for in a guy. She said he should have the 4Cs - Career, Car, Credit Card and Cellphone. Another girl from college says he needs to have 3Ds - Dunong, Dating and Datung (Smart, Attractive and Rich). I laughed but somehow I know it takes more than a pretty boy, a kickass car, and an IQ of 145 to sway me away.

Here’s the truth to the 4Cs:

Career - Girls are often turned on to guys who seem like they have a wonderful career going for them. Career somehow speaks of the persons ability to earn a living, a perception of earning more than an average joe earns. It somehow gives the perception that this man may someday become a high powered executive in the firm he works for thus translating to financial stability. What they don’t know is that sometimes it’s just about the packaging — the way our career-oriented-boy-next-door presents the way he does things in his office. If you would schedule a day out of your busy schedule to observe how he does his daily work, you would realize that his so-called career is nothing different from what you call work.

Car - So pretty boy has a CAR, nice is not exactly the best adjective out there to describe it. ‘Kickass’ would be a much better word to attach to a such a creation. Silver gray and under the hood, it has 2.4-liter 4-cylinder MIVEC engine distributes an outstanding balance of performance and economy, the benefit of its variable valve timing technology. An adaptive four-speed automatic transmission gets the power to the pavement, while a multilink independent rear suspension gives it a smooth ride and sharp handling. What’s more, it boasts front seat-mounted side-impact air bagsAdvanced Dual-Stage front SRS air bags†, and a five-star rating for frontal crash safety based on tests conducted by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA).* All of this in the best backed** midsize car on the road. Whatever that means. Let me give you the hard core truth, since pretty boy has a career, think multinational corp, he probably has a subsidized car loan which probably takes up 14,000 PHP - for gas, toll fees and parking lots (based on my last computation on how much it would cost me if I got myself a car loan) on a monthly basis. This means that if he is earning 25,000 PHP a month, the car takes up more than half of his GROSS (yes, GROSSLY EXPENSIVE!) salary. What’s worse is, as much as this car becomes conjugal property if you end up with pretty boy, so does the loan, honey.

Cellphone - Maganda ang cellphone nitong pare ko. They say you’ll know the man you’re talking to by looking at his cellphone. Yeah right. Check it out, is it prepaid? Kaya pala kahit pisong "Ok thanks" di ka niya masagot, because he’s still paying for the credit card charges. Is it post-paid? That means he’s tied to a two-year contract that will make him pay 3,500 PHP a month.

Credit Card - Charge all shopping sprees and dinner dates to the plastic. He wines and dines almost every Friday at Greenbelt. He walks around with the coolest MP3 player in the market and struts his booty with branded clothes. He thinks Citibank is a blessing.

Do the math. If his gross salary is 25,000 that means his net take home pay is just around 18,000 less the 14,000 on his kickass car and his 3,500 PHP a month cellphone. That leaves him with just 500 PHP and golly, he still has to pay for his credit card charges and he has to sustain his daily food-related expenses for the entire month. THERE’S ONE WORD AN ACCOUNTANT WOULD USE TO DESCRIBE HIM - INSOLVENT.

My take on the 3Ds:

Dating - Yes, he makes your heart skip a beat when you see him walking around. Maporma itong pare ko. He leaves you breathless… Ahhh and that scent, is that Hugo Boss o Armani? I can’t tell… I’m too much in a daze. I used to tell my dad, between a non-gorgeous good boy and a devil-incarnate-boy-that-leaves-me-breathless, I’d go for the second one. At least yung gwapong salbahe pwede pang bumait, yung mabait na hindi gwapo, pwede ba maging salbahe. Yes, I too went through that phase. But devil-incarnate sex gods don’t really astound me anymore. Often, they love themselves too much to think about other people’s feelings. They are usually dense, insensitive and self-centered. It’s not that I hate gorgeous guys, it’s just that I realized it’s much better to be with someone who’s plain and yet makes sense and cares about people and things, instead of focusing on himself. It’s just plain stressful.

Dunong - Smart kid. Sometimes, he becomes too confident and thinks everyone around him is below him. It’s nice going out with someone smart, but that person has to have enough guts to accept the reality that he is not infallible, di ba? Minsan naman, he’s too smart it bores you. Basta, siguro dapat the guy has to be smart but has enough amount of "dumb" in him.

Datung - It’s not difficult to think that marrying someone rich is a girls ticket to bliss. But money isn’t everything, dear. Money is sometimes the problem.

I think at the end of the day, there are five things every woman should ask herself when evaluating the boys next door, the pretty boys and the dangerously charming men that comes her way:
a) Is he God-fearing?
b) Is he responsible?
c) 50 years down the line, would I feel like he’s a blessing or a curse?
d) Are we headed on the same direction?
e) Do I really wanna do this?

Thank God for the bad boys in this world, they make us appreciate the last good ones

Stellar by Incubus

Another song I was told to listen to and read the lyrics by that special friend.
Another song I heard for the first time.
Another song I was not familiar by the band, Incubus. Though I have heard of this band, I haven't listened to any of their songs ever since.
I can say that its got that mellow-and-rock-at-the-same-time sound .

--------------------------------------------

STELLAR by INCUBUS

You are stellar

Meet me in outer space
We could spend the night
Watch the earth come up
I've grown tired of that place
Won't you come with me?
We could start again

How do you do it?
You make me feel like I do
How do you do it?
It's better than I ever knew, ho

Meet me in outer space
I will hold you close
If you're afraid of heights
I need you to see this place
It might be the only way
That I can show you how
It feels to be inside of you

How do you do it?
You make me feel like I do
How do you do it?
It's better than I ever knew, yea
How do you do it?
You make me feel like I do
You do

Ohh
You are stellar
You are stellar

How do you do it?
You make me feel like I do
How do you do it?
Its better than I ever knew, no
How do you do it?
You make me feel like I do
How do you do it?
You make me feel like I do
Yea

--------------------------------------------

I have read different reviews about this song.
Incubus fans says its one of Incubus' greatest songs.
Some says it a double meaning song. They say it can be interpreted to be talking about love or sex.
I somewhat agree that it can be interpreted to both depending on the situation.
Quoting one of the reviews I have read:

You can look at this song in two ways
1. Sex
2. I love you
Sex would be a more literal way to look at it but the I love you would be a more figurative way to look at it.
"How do you do it?/Make me feel the way I do", well that explains it self for #1, but it could also symbolize love.
I believe that they truely wrote this for #1, but it can also work for #2 and if any guy wants an extra boost to try to win a girl's heart, play this song on guitar and try to perfect singing with it and dedicate the song to her, and she will look at this song in #2 most likely, not #1.
Beautiful song, acoustic version even 10 times better.

just work

July has been a slow month for me in terms of work. There have been lesser assignments for me to work on. Assignments were not ended by my clients but they have not been giving me something to work on.

I have been the operations assistant of tiger for quite sometime now, they gave me a big task last month which requires me to work from 1am to 6am (philippine time) to be able to delegate the tasks, real time, to all the coders and designers. Things have been pretty ok at first but have been slow for the past week. I have been told that I will be trained to be a QA specialist, and until now, I still wasn't trained for it. My schedule and the schedule of the person who will train me, won't match. We can't agree on the best time to meet via Skype for the training. Well, I do hope it would be done this month.

As for being the project manager of engravedwell, I have been working for him for a year already. Yey! . . . I do hope that I have really contributed a lot to the success of his business. Well, as what he told me, I was able to help the increase in sales of the business. He also put my name in the website credits which is really good for my portfolio. He recently gave me a bonus, said that its an installment for the laptop that I want to buy soon. Thank you!!

As personal assistant /data entry / photoshop / research for sunglassesuk, no work from him last july. I have finished the assignment end of June, and still waiting for the next one.

As for the IPs I used to resolve weekly, I wonder why he hasn't send me a list for two weeks already. Well, maybe he is busy working on something.

August started really great for me. I have been hired by four clients already for the first half of August. The assignments are

  • Directory and Article Submission
  • Editing Images
  • Website Administrator, and
  • Admin - typing CD transcripts
Working on assignments requiring me to use different skills helps a lot in improving myself more.

I hope that my luck will continue for the rest of the year.
